Privacy Policy

Last updated September 22, 2026

Your conversations are personal. This Privacy Policy explains what information Mina (“Mina,” “we,” “us” or “our”) collects when you use our website, web app, mobile apps and related services (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.

Mina is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. It works together with our Terms of Use. If you have any question about your privacy, contact us at contact@withmina.app.

Information we collect

We collect the following information, depending on how you use Mina:

  • Waitlist. Your email address when you ask for early access.
  • Account. Your name, email address, password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never in plain text), profile photo and the details you add during onboarding. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google.
  • Messages and content. The messages, photos, voice notes, reactions and files you send, the chats and groups you belong to, and related metadata such as timestamps and read status.
  • Mina interactions. What you ask Mina, the conversations Mina takes part in, Mina’s responses, the memories Mina keeps (shared or private) and your Mina settings for each chat.
  • Invitations. The contact details of friends you choose to invite, which we use only to send your invitation.
  • Notifications. If you enable push notifications, a device token that lets us deliver them to your browser or device.
  • Usage and device information. Your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages and screens viewed, actions taken in the Service, referring pages, approximate location derived from your IP address, and diagnostic logs.
  • Communications. The messages you send us when you contact support or give feedback.
  • Cookies and local storage. Small files and browser storage that keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as light or dark mode) and help us understand how the Service is used.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the Service: create your account, deliver your messages and keep your chats in sync across devices.
  • Power Mina’s features, such as replies, catch-up summaries, translations, fact checks, reminders and memory.
  • Send invitations, notifications and messages about your account and the Service.
  • Keep Mina safe: prevent spam, fraud and abuse, review reports and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines.
  • Understand how the Service is used, fix bugs and improve our features.
  • Send you news about Mina when allowed, which you can opt out of at any time.
  • Comply with our legal obligations and protect our rights and the rights of others.

Mina and AI processing

When Mina is part of a chat, or when you ask it something privately, we send the relevant messages, media, conversation context, profile details and memories to artificial intelligence model providers so they can generate a response. We only send what is needed for the request.

These providers process this data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it and prohibit them from using it to train their own models. We do not use the content of your conversations to train AI models.

Private answers from Mina are visible only to you until you choose to share them with the chat.

Shared memory holds what you choose to share with a chat, and can inform replies that everyone in that chat sees. Private memory stays between you and Mina and is never surfaced to the group.

You stay in control: for each chat, you can choose how present Mina is (chiming in, mentions only, or quiet), remove Mina from a chat, and, where these controls are available, review, correct or delete what Mina remembers.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share information only in these cases:

  • With the people you talk to. Your profile, messages and shared content are visible to the members of your chats. Shared memory can appear in replies seen by the members of the chat it belongs to.
  • With service providers who help us run Mina, such as hosting and database (Supabase, Vercel), product analytics (Amplitude), push notifications (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging), email delivery and AI model providers. They may only use your information to provide their services to us.
  • For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, Mina or the public.
  • In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will notify you if your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  • With your consent, or at your direction.

How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service.

When you delete a message, it is removed from the Service for everyone it was deleted for. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it longer to comply with the law, resolve disputes or prevent abuse. Copies in backups are deleted on a rolling schedule.

If you only joined the waitlist, we keep your email address until you get your invitation, or until you ask us to remove it.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest by our infrastructure providers and strict access controls within our team. Your messages are not end-to-end encrypted, because Mina needs to read the conversations it takes part in.

No system is completely secure. Protect your password, and tell us immediately at contact@withmina.app if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.

Watch out for phishing: Mina will never ask for your password by email. If you receive a suspicious message claiming to be from Mina, report it to contact@withmina.app.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw your consent at any time.

You can update your profile in the Service, turn notifications on or off in your browser or device settings, unsubscribe from marketing emails with the link they contain, and manage cookies in your browser settings. For any other request, contact us at contact@withmina.app. We may need to verify your identity before we act on it, and we will reply within the time required by law.

We will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

Users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom

We process your personal information on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the Service you signed up for, including messaging and Mina’s features.
  • Legitimate interests: to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, understand usage and improve Mina, in ways that do not override your rights.
  • Consent: for push notifications, certain cookies and marketing, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legal obligation: when the law requires us to process or keep information.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

United States privacy rights

Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to access and delete it, to correct it and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your rights, contact us at contact@withmina.app. You may use an authorized agent, and we will not discriminate against you for making a request.

International transfers

Mina and its service providers may process your information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from yours. When we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children

Mina is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at contact@withmina.app and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Mina evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email before they take effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
